Chairman Railway Board receives Green Building – Gold Rating Award for Rail Nilayam from Confederation of Indian Industry

The SCR Headquarters office building, Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad has been awarded the prestigious IGBC – Green Existing Building Gold Rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The plaque of honour was presented to Shri Ashwani Lohani, Chairman Railway Board and Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR today i.e., 6thDecember, 2017 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad by Shri C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC, Hyderabad Chapter.

Rail Nilayam, which houses the Zonal Headquarters of SCR was built in 1969 over an area of 8.71 acres. The total built up area of the building is approximately 36797 Sq. meters extending over 4 blocks. The main Block ‘Á’ comprises of 7 floors. Over 250 trees are planted all around the building, which handles employee strength of 2650.

The IGBC Gold Rating was achieved for the building by means of undertaking various water saving measures, waste management, Electrical energy saving & generation, water conservation, occupants comforts and other eco friendly practices.  The Green practices in existing building will help address National issues like water efficiency, energy efficiency, reduction in fossil fuel use in commuting, handling of waste and conserving natural resources.
