Lucknow: The Metro DPRs(Detailed Project Reports) of the four cities – Kanpur, Meerut, Allahabad & Agra – have been revised as per Centre’s new Metro Rail Policy & will be submitted to the state government for approval in January first week. Since the older DPRs are 1-2 years old, the cost of construction has also increased by 5% percent annually.
- While Kanpur will have 6-car Metro trains, Agra, Meerut & Allahabad will have 3-car metro trains.
- “All four cities have a huge number of commuters and their roads are full of traffic. There are age old structures on sides which are difficult to remove. Metro is meant for densely-congested areas, so we have recommended it as the most effective public transport in these four cities,” LMRC, Managing Director, Kumar Keshav said.
- Varanasi Metro DPR is still being revised given its highly congested areas & maximum corridor being proposed underground.
