Expo Ferroviaria 2019: Record Of Visitors And An Appointment To 2021

Milan- The ninth edition of EXPO Ferroviaria, Italy’s showcase for railway technologies, products and systems, closed at Rho Fiera Milano. The numbers confirm the importance that the event covers in the panorama of the international railway industry, a moment of confrontation and presentation of the innovations of the sector.

The three days in Milan saw a turnout of 8,400 visitors including managers, executives and engineers. The participation of foreign visitors, coming from 64 countries and of the delegations of railway operators from Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Colombia, Chile, Thailand, USA and Australia has once again highlighted the increasingly international spirit of the exhibition, which welcomed the main players in the sector: 280 exhibitors from 21 countries, of which over 100 were exhibiting for the first time.

The visit of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli during the first day, has confirmed the centrality of rail transport in Italy and has been followed by a visit to the main stands and innovations at the event. Among these: Stadler Rail AG presented the preview of the 1: 1 scale model of the FLIRT DMU train built for the FNM Group; ETS with “ARCHITA-ETS Mobile Mapping System” a cutting-edge modular system for mobile survey for civil engineering and infrastructure surveys. Furthermore, Alstom Ferroviaria with its innovative and sustainable solutions both at the railway level and for urban transport and Lucchini RS Group has emphasized the evolution of wheelset maintenance, a sector in which the advent of digitalization provides operators with increasingly innovative and cutting-edge tools.

A peek at the future with the “ERCI Innovation Award 2019” where Siemens Mobility and D-Rail were awarded for the best European innovations 2019 developed within ERCI’s Railway Technology Districts by a Large Enterprise and an SME. The European Coup de Coeur Jury Prize went to IVM Srl with POWERVE- POrtable WEigher for RAilway VEhicles, a portable static balance for rolling stock.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Giuseppe Gaudiello, the President ANIE-ASSIFER; Maurizio Gentile, CEO and General Manager of RFI (the Italian Railway Network); Andrea Gibelli, President of FNM Group; Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility and Environment of the Municipality of Milan; Marco Piuri ,Managing Director of Trenord, and Claudia Maria Terzi, Councillor for Infrastructures Transport and sustainable mobility of the Lombardy Region.

The next edition of EXPO Ferroviaria will return to Milan in autumn 2021.
