Indian Railways Plans To Introduce World-Class “Made in India” Two Semi High Speed Trains – Train 18 & Train 20 (Check Features)

New Delhi: Indian Railways’ is all set to introduce a couple of ‘world-class’ Made in India semi high-speed trains. Being manufactured at ICF Chennai, the two train sets, Train 18 & Train 20, will take Indian Railways’ trains to a league of world-class infrastructure.

About These Trains –

  • One Train 18 coach will cost Rs 2.50 crore.
  • A Train 20 coach will cost around Rs 5.50 crore.
  • These trains would be the fastest in India when introduced.
  • Railways is reportedly planning to roll out two Train 18 by August this year.
  • Train 20 is likely to be rolled out on tracks by 2020.
  • Train 18 will be a fully air-conditioned chair car-type train.
  • Train 20 will be a sleeper-class type train for overnight travel.
  • During trial runs the two trains clocked 176 kmph speed.
  • However, they will run at a maximum speed of 170 kmph when commercial operations start.
  • The trains will be propelled by 6 motor coaches which would help in faster acceleration.

  1. On-board infotainment
  2. WiFi on board
  3. Automatic plug doors
  4. Plush luxurious interiors with diffused lighting
  5. Sleek modular toilets
  6. Underslung 3-phase propulsion system
  7. Stainless steel body
  8. GPS-based passenger information system
  9. Sealed gangways
  10. Latest generation bogies for better riding comfort
  11. Zero discharge vaccum-bio toilets
  12. Wide windows

Train 20 features:

  1. Two types of coaches – air-conditioned chair car and sleeper-type – will be manufactured. The sleeper type coaches will include AC – 1st class, AC-2 tier and AC-3 tier.
  2. Under-slung 3-phase propulsion system
  3. Automatic doors
  4. Aluminium body
