Kochi Metro commences construction activities

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has commenced the construction activities which were stopped due to the corona outbreak and subsequent lockdown in the country. The work will be carried out following strict protocols laid down by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the state government.

“We are strictly following the protocols laid down by the government. KMRL officials are making extra effort to ensure proper transportation of workers, mandatory medical checkups, provision for hand wash & sanitizers & disinfection of work sites.” said KMRL MD Alkesh Kumar Sharma.

Also, after holding discussions with Axis Bank recently, KMRL has decided to refund the trip passes which expired during the lockdown period. 2750 metro users will benefit from this decision. Kochi1 card is a joint product of KMRL and Axis Bank.

“All those cardholders who have lost their money due to the lockdown will get back the value of pending trips,” said Mr. Sharma. At present Kochi Metro has 80,000 card users, which forms 27 per cent of the total ridership.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) along with other Metro authorities of the country suspended the services of Metro until further orders after the extension of national lockdown to contain the COVID-19 pandemic till May 3.
