Kolkata Metro update: Abandoned circular railway viaducts removed at Biman Bandar Metro station site

The construction work of Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbandar Metro project has been going o­n in full swing even during the Covid-19 pandemic. Significant progress has been achieved at the Biman Bandar station site of this project during the lockdown. The abandoned viaducts of Circular Railway which have been infringing with the alignment of the underground Metro tunnel of Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbandar Metro project have also been removed near Biman Bandar Metro station site during this period.

  • A 600 MT crane was used to unload an abandoned girder weighing nearly 425 MT successfully beside Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport Departure Flyover o­n 16.09.2020.
  • The construction work of a subway at this Biman Bandar station site linking Bimanbandar with Jessore Road has also started o­n 16.09.2020.
  • Senior officers of Metro Railway and other staff have been working round the clock to ensure the smooth progress of this work.  
  • All safety precautions have been taken at the project site and workers have been maintaining all Covid-19 protocols while executing the job.

Recent Progress:

Construction work at Biman Bandar station site of Noapara-Barasat via Biman Bandar Metro project has been going o­n in full swing, even during the present Covid-19 pandemic.

The construction work at this station site went o­n throughout the night o­n 11.09.2020, the day of lockdown. During the day of lockdown, reinforcement of cage binding of diaphragm wall and top slab was done. 

  • Apart from this, the potholes o­n the approach road which were affecting traffic movement near Biman Bandar Metro project site were also repaired.
  • All staff at this site have been following all Covid-19 protocols while executing the job.
  • Meanwhile, o­n 16.09.2020 Shri Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway Kolkata reviewed the progress of works of the different o­n-going Metro projects in the city with the senior officials of Metro Railway and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).
  • During this meeting, he instructed all concerned officials to ensure the good progress of work.  
  • He emphasized o­n timely completion of these projects.  
  • Shri Joshi also advised all to strictly maintain social distancing norms and other protocols at Metro Station premises after the resumption of Metro services to contain the spread of Covid-19.
