Kolkata Metro Update: Work on Noapara-Bimanbander Metro Rail project resumed

Kolkata: The work on Noapara-Bimanbander Metro Rail project has been resumed. Ministry of Railways said in a tweet,”Work of Noapara – Bimanbander Metro Rail project restarted in Kolkata. Delaunching of PSC box girder (20 m span) completed successfully by Kolkata Metro.”


More than 100 construction and renovation projects have got the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC)’s approval to resume work over the past week. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) have also been granted permission to resume work on the New Garia-Airport Metro link and East-West Metro respectively.

In continuation with precautionary measures for , Some of the safety measures are being observed are as follows-

  • Workers will maintain physical distancing and wear masks.
  • The work site should have pictorial instructions on safety measures.
  • There should be a daily drill on the measures to be followed.
  • Besides, the builder must create an isolation facility and withdraw from work anyone who shows symptoms of Covid-19 and immediately alert the police or the CMC’s health clinic.

Also, Metro Railway Authorities have taken several initiatives to provide different basic facilities to workers including contract labourers staying at work site of Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbander Metro extension Project.

  • Masks, alcohol based sanitizers and soaps have also been provided to the workers and they have been encouraged to wash their hands frequently in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

  • They have also been encouraged to follow the government’s guidelines to stop spread of this deadly virus.
  • Social distancing and cleanliness are being maintained at this  site camp  very strictly.
  • Water tank and RO based water plants have been  installed for maintaining personal hygiene at this  site camp.
  • Separate room has also been identified as Isolation Room for anyone found with symptoms of cold, cough and fever.

More on the Project : 

The Noapara-Barasat Line is a 16.876 km long metro route, which is under construction. It is being built by RVNL. The Noapara-Barasat line has received a budgetary grant of Rs 200 crore for fiscal 2020-21.

  • Delhi Metro : The DMRC has restarted construction work on phase-4 of Delhi Metro project.
  • Kanpur Metro : Following orders of the state government regarding relaxation in coronavirus induced lockdown, the construction work for Kanpur Metro Project has resumed.
  • Bangalore Metro : The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has resumed Phase-2 of Namma Metro work.
  • Pune Metro : Maha Metro has resumed work on the Pune Metro rail project after green signal from the state government.
  • Nagpur Metro : Construction activity on Nagpur Rail project has resumed in Nagpur.
  • Mumbai Metro : The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) resumed work on nine Metro routes after BMC approval.
  • Chennai Metro : Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has resumed work for the phase 1 extension project.
