MMRDA plans common interchange station for Metro-2B and 4

The MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) planning to provide common interchange station for DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro 2B and Wadala-Kasarvadavali Metro 4 corridors. This will provide huge convenience to commuters travelling on these lines, said an senior MMRDA official.

More Information:

  • As per the original plans, Eastern Express Highway (EEH) station was marked as the interchange station on Metro-2B corridor and Siddharth Colony station for Metro-4 corridor.
  • Both the stations near the intersection of EEH and SG Barve marg, was approx. 480 metres in distance.
  • However, considering commuter convenience, the MMRDA decided to merge both station on both metro lines.
  • Under the new plan, a new station – Siddharth Colony – will serve both lines.
  • The metro-2B is the extended corridor of Metro-2A running from Dahisar (w) to Andheri DN Nagar, making it a 42-km long corridor.
  • It is expected to carry 12 lakh commuters daily once commenced in 2021.

Metro-2B:

  • The 23.5-km long Metro-2B corridor will have 22 stations.

Metro-4:

  • Metro Line 4 from Wadala to Kasarvadavali is 32.32 km. long elevated corridor with 32 stations.

  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Eastern Express Roadway, Central Railway, Mono Rail, the ongoing Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale), and the proposed Metro Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan), Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli) & Metro Line 8 (Wadala to General Post Office).
  • The estimated of the project is Rs. 14,549 Crore.
