Pune Metro has two corridors of about 31 km length. Vanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate. The range hill to Swargate 5 km stretch of PCMC to Swargate corridor is underground. Pune Metro will be employing state of the art 4 Tunnel Boring Machine to dug twin tunnel in underground stretch.
The tunnel boring machine is the sophisticated computer controlled state of the art machine which bores the tunnel and also places the precast concrete ring segments to clad the tunnel from inside.
This as the TBM proceeds it makes a tube tunnel behind. The tube tunnel will then used for laying track, signalling system and electrical overhead conductor.Total ring required for 5 KM length twin tunnel are 6054.
So far made 200 rings are made in MahaMetro Deccan college casting yard. The diameter of the ring is @6.4 meter. Each ring is made up of six parts. The Factory Acceptance Test of one TBM which was conducted successfully today 6.9.19 in Terratec Factory China.
Officials from Maha Metro witnessed the test. It is expected that TBM will be dispatched by month end and will reach Pune via Mumbai Port by end of October. Tunneling activity will commence in Nov. The inspection of next TBM is scheduled after one month.
On this occasion Dr Brijesh Dixit, MD, MahaMetro has said ” MahaMetro is committed to undertake the underground work as per schedule and inspection and passing of TBM is a milestone in our preparedness and execution of underground tunnelling work”
