In February this year, RITES Limited emerged as a successful bidder for supply of Locomotives, Coaches and DEMUs (Diesel electric Multiple Units) to a Cape Gauge country.
Now , Tenders are invited, through E-Tendering system, by RITES Ltd., a Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways for “Design and Development of Car Body Shell for 8 variants of Cape Gauge Passenger Coaches”.

Brief Scope of Work:
The Scope of Work consists of “Design and Development of Car Body Shell for 8 variants of Cape Gauge Passenger Coaches”.
The successful bidder shall undertake all activities leading to and including issue of manufacturing drawings so as to enable RITES Limited to undertake tendering for Car Body Shell sub-assemblies for the 8 types of coaches as also facilitate manufacture of the same at the manufacturers’ end.
Scope of work shall broadly cover but not limited to the following:-
- Preparation of General Installation (GI) drawing of Car Body Shell for each type of Cape Gauge Passenger / DEMU Coach.
- To create 3D model and prepare 2D drawings of all assembly, sub-assembly and components of Car Body Shell (Sidewall, Endwall, Roof, Underframe, Doorway and Partition Frame) for each type of Cape Gauge Passenger / DEMU Coach .
- Finite Element Analysis report (pdf/xls/ppt) of Underframe for each type of Cape Gauge Passenger / DEMU Coach.
- Finite Element Analysis report (pdf/xls/ppt) of complete Shell for Second class 3 Tier Passenger coach & DEMU Driving Power Car (DPC) coach.
The successful bidder shall also supervise integration of the Car Body Shell sub-assemblies for the 8 types of coaches at MCF so as to facilitate manufacture of the same at MCF. While preparing the design, the successful bidder shall also take into account the interfacing issues with the passenger and DEMU coach bogies and facilitate the integration process at MCF.
Any design changes required to be made due to issues that come up during manufacture shall also be undertaken by the successful bidder. For undertaking design & development, the successful bidder should also take into account the relevant specification for each type of coach issued by the Railway coach manufacturing units.
