Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB), a leading technology supplier for the freight and transit rail industries, inaugurated today the Wabtec India Engineering and Technology Center (WITEC) in Bengaluru. The company’s new center is a world-class facility designed to support growth and innovation.

WITEC is located on the South Block of ITC Green Campus on Banaswadi Main Road in Bengaluru. Wabtec will occupy five floors of the building. It represents a $5-million investment into Wabtec’s capabilities and presence in India. The Engineering and Technology Center will host engineering teams spanning across the company’s Digital Electronics portfolio and will feature cutting edge labs. These include validation labs for Distributed Power, Positive Train Control, Trip Optimizer, Electronic Air Brake, Signaling Systems, EdgeLINC and many other products for Wabtec’s Advanced Train Automation solutions.
“Our engineering team in India has been essential to bringing breakthrough technologies to the industries we serve,” said Dominique Malenfant, Global Chief Technology Officer, Wabtec. “This new design and development center will increase our capabilities in additive technology and testing facilities. It also establishes a collaborative environment for India team to drive innovation along with our development hubs in Europe and the United States.”
The new center currently has over 600 employees. The team is expected to grow to over 1000 by the end of 2020 and will also include partner resources.
“Bengaluru is the ideal location for WITEC as we grow our team,” said Gopalakrishna Madabhushi, Global Director – Globalization, India Engineering Site Leader, Wabtec. “This region provides the right talent pool for us to support the growth of our India operations. We will be hiring 250 engineers to work on our Railway and Digital platforms,” he added.
WITEC complements the other Wabtec sites in operations across India supporting the freight and transit industries. Wabtec today has 3,000 employees in India making it the largest rolling stock and rail equipment company in the country.
