All passenger train and metro rail services to remain shut across India till May 3

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the lockdown till May 3 to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Indian Railways also decided to extend the cancellation of passenger train services till the period.

Also, hours after the extension of the nationwide lockdown, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced that all metro rail services across the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Jaipur will remain shut till May 3.

Durga Shankar Mishra,  Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, said, “With today’s announcement of extending complete lockdown in the country till May 3, metro rail services will continue to be suspended till May 3.”

The services earlier remained shut till April 14. 

The Railways in a statement said, “In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of Covid-19 lockdown, it has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways including premium trains, mail and express trains, passenger trains, suburban trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway etc shall continue to remain cancelled till 3rd May 2020.”

 It said, movement of goods and parcel trains will continue to ensure essential supplies reach various parts of the country.
