
Chennai metro has been operating since 2015 and in 2021, approx. 2.53 crore passengers travelled in Chennai Metro.
- Despite the pandemic, CMRL has come up with several efficient and sustainable initiatives to increase the patronage.
- Availability of ample parking space at Metro Stations and 12 Mini Bus Feeder services are presently available at select Metro Stations.
- Previous ridership:
- 2,80,52,357 passengers travelled between 29′ June 2015 to 31″ December 2018.
- 3,28,13,628 passengers travelled between 1″ January 2019 to 31” December 2019.
- 1,18,56,982 passengers travelled between 1″ January 2020 to 31” December 2020.
- 2,53,03,383 passengers travelled between 1″ January 2021 to 31” December 2021.
- So far, a total of 9,80,26,350 passengers have travelled in Chennai Metro between 29′ June 2015 to 31″ December 2021.
- Metro Train services were suspended from March 2020 – September 2020 and from May 2021-June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
- CMRL continues to request all passengers to wear facemasks at all times in Metro Station premises and inside Metro Trains for their own safety and maintain social distancing.
