The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s (BMRCL) TBM TUNGA completed a significant 936.6-meter tunnel between Kadugondanahalli and Nagawara Station’s Cut & Cover Shaft. With 98% of tunnelling work done, eight out of nine TBMs have now finished their task, marking a key milestone for Bangalore Metro Phase 2.

- TBM TUNGA’s Milestone: TBM TUNGA achieved a breakthrough after tunnelling 936.6 metres between Kadugondanahalli Station and Nagawara Station’s South Cut & Cover Shaft, having started work on 3rd February 2024.
- Progress of the Project: This breakthrough brings the total tunnelling progress to 20,582.7 metres out of 20,992 metres, marking 98% completion of the overall project.
- TBM Deployment Update: Out of the nine Tunnel Boring Machines deployed for the project, eight have now successfully completed their tunnelling work, with only one TBM remaining.
BMRCL inked a Memorandum of Understanding with GRIHA:
- Partnership for Green Initiatives: BMRCL and GRIHA signed an MoU to collaborate on promoting green buildings and sustainable habitats, focusing on adopting environmentally responsible practices in metro construction.
- Capacity Building & Training: The MoU covers training sessions, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives to educate stakeholders on green building practices and GRIHA ratings for sustainable infrastructure.
- Green Certification for Metro Stations: The partnership will support BMRCL in obtaining Green Building certifications for Namma Metro stations, enhancing their environmental sustainability during construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Joint Efforts in Sustainability: The collaboration will facilitate the registration of projects for GRIHA ratings, ensuring the integration of resource-efficient and eco-friendly practices in Bangalore’s metro development.
- Government-Backed Green Rating System: GRIHA Council, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, will streamline the adoption of green building standards, aiding BMRCL in advancing sustainable urban transit solutions.
