Central Railway starts trial with Remote Live Monitoring of temperature in traction motor sensor on one suburban train and on axle box

A provision of Remote Live Monitoring of Traction Motor Temperature Sensor with GPS location has been installed in traction motor (ITB-2022-OTA-03 type Siemens make Traction Motor) for trial purpose in one Suburban Rake in Sanpada Workshop.

More Details:

  • Due to the instalment of Temperature Sensor, it will alert the abnormal temperature (75℃ to 85℃ is High and 85℃ & above is critical) which leads to the displacement of Shrink Ring and DE bearing inner race. Ultimately, this will alert the Wheel Lock from service rakes.

Advantages of Axle box temperature live monitoring system:

  • The system sends following alerts based on the running temperature of the axle box.
  • Orange colour alert when axle box temperatures touch the temperature limit of 50°C.
  • Red colour alert when axle box temperatures touch the temperature limit of 65°C.
  • The Axle box temperature live monitoring will enable the control office to plan preventive action in advance before the axle box temperature reaches the maximum permissible limit of 80 °C Enroute on road side coach detachment by deputing the staff for inspection/regulating the train in loop. Mumbai Division has plans to implement this system in coaches of other trains.

Salient features:

  • Major Components: It is an lot based system, majorly consisting of: Temperature sensors-at the axle boxes
  • Level sensors-inside the water tanks
  • Conduit piping, LoRa modules-both slave and master modules for covering the entire train length.
  • Web space for front end user interface and backend data storage.
  • Long lasting batteries.
  • The adoption of new technology in monitoring temperatures will enhance passenger safety.
