Chennai Metro has taken another step to expand metro connectivity in the region, a contract for preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the introduction of Metro Corridor from Koyambedu to Avadi has been awarded to M/s RITES Limited. This agreement signifies a crucial step in enhancing metro connectivity, catering to the growing urban and industrial demands.

In yet another step to expand metro connectivity in the region, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a contract agreement for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for introduction of Metro Rail from Koyambedu to Avadi via Padi Pudhu nagar, Ambattur and Thirumullaivoyal. The contract has been awarded to M/s RITES Limited for a value of Rs. 80.48 Lakhs (excluding GST). The Letter of Acceptance (LOA) has been issued to M/s RITES Limited.
Brief about the Extension Corridor:
- This proposed corridor is approximately 16 km long and includes approximately 15 elevated metro stations.
- The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor is being undertaken considering the developments such as Information Technology Parks, industrial and thickly populated areas along the corridor.
- The work involves more than 30 boreholes for soil investigation and conducting topographical surveys for the entire length. The assignment is expected to be completed by November 2024.
- Following an extensive alignment study during the DPR stage, the total number of stations and the details of land requirements will be finalised.
Key Presence During Agreement Ceremony:
The contract agreement was signed by Mr. T. Livingstone Eliazer, CGM (PP&D) on behalf of CMRL and Mr. Sudeep Kumar Gupta, AGM/UE on behalf of M/s RITES Limited. Mr. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director, CMRL, Mr. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Tmt. Rekha Prakash, CGM (P&D), and other officials from CMRL & the consultant were also present during the occasion.
Conclusion:
This agreement marks a vital step by Chennai Metro and RITES in expanding metro connectivity to meet urban and industrial demands. The detailed project report, due by November 2024, will offer a comprehensive blueprint for the new corridor, ensuring it supports the region’s development and enhances urban mobility.
