Chennai Metro signs agreement with Larsen & Toubro for ballastless track of standard gauge from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has signed the contract agreement for Contract No. CP18A-ATW-09 with M/s Larsen & Toubro Limited. The contract is part of JICA funding for Phase-II under Loan Agreement No. ID-P272. This is the last track tender awarded for CMRL Phase-II.

More Details:

  • The Scope of the contract involves Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Ballastless Track of Standard Gauge including all associated Works in Underground and Elevated Section from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur of Corridor 3.
  • CMRL issued Letter of Acceptance to M/s Larsen & Toubro Limited on 22.12.2022 for an amount of INR 299,46,86,979/- (Excluding Provisional Sum and GST).
  • The Contract Agreement is signed by Mr. T. Archunan, Director (Projects) on behalf of CMRL and Mr. Sunil Khattar, Vice President, Head-Metro Business unit on behalf of M/s L&T.
  • Mr. S. Ashok Kumar, Chief General Manager (T&EC), Mr. D. Gurunath Reddy, Additional General Manager (CP), Officials from CP department and Track department of CMRL, GC and M/s L&T were present during the Contract Agreement signing ceremony.

About Chennai Metro Phase-2:

  • Phase II expansion has been planned for a length of 118.9 Km network with 128 nos. Of Stations. It consists of three Corridors i.e. Corridor -3 – From Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km), Corridor -4 – From Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km), Corridor-5- From Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km).
  • The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 63246/- Cr (Rupees Sixty three thousand two hundred and forty six only) (including IDC). The project is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
