Chennai Metro’s Managing Director Mr. M.A. Siddique visits Alstom factory for inspection of Chennai Metro Phase-2 coaches

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) had earlier signed a contract for supply of Metro trains for the Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Phase 2. The contract was awarded to M/s. Alstom Transport India Limited on November 17, 2022.

More Details:

  • This order was to Supply 26 Trainsets of three car configurations at a cost of Rs.946 crores. These trains will be manufactured in the Alstom’s Manufacturing facility located in Sri City, Tada.
  • Mr. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director, CMRL accompanied by Mr. Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (System and Operations) along with Mr. A.R. Rajendran, CGM (Rolling Stock) and other Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited inspected the manufacturing facility of Alstom and made assessment of the facilities available for production of the trains.

  • The Metro Trains for the Phase 1 of Chennai Metro Rail Project were also manufactured at the Sri City facility of Alstom. The newly ordered Metro Trainsets for Phase 2 will have upgraded features along with Driverless Operation at Grade of Automation 4.
  • The Managing Director of CMRL appreciated the facilities available at the factory and asked to start the production as early as possible and deliver the trains early to the CMRL Phase 2 project.

About Chennai Metro Phase-2:

  • Phase II expansion has been planned for a length of 118.9 Km network with 128 nos. Of Stations. It consists of three Corridors i.e. Corridor -3 – From Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km), Corridor -4 – From Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km), Corridor-5- From Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km).
  • The estimated cost of the project is ₹63246/- Cr (Rupees Sixty three thousand two hundred and forty six only) (including IDC). The project is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
