Rail Analysis: Please tell us something about this new venture of Samtel in Railway Electronics?

Shri Puneet Kaura: Samtel, as you may know, has been a leader in the electronics industry for last 5 decades.. have been the pioneers and one of the leading players in manufacturing of high-technology electronic products & systems for various applications and industries. Our first footsteps were in consumer electronics, then we moved on to aerospace and defence. This foray into Railway Electronics is a strategic progression into a high-tech domain where we can capitalise into our expertise and experience in electronic manufacturing.

 


 

Rail Analysis: What are your offerings for the Railway Electronics domain?

Shri Puneet Kaura: At Samtel, we have always believed that once the technology is proven in one domain, it is a natural progression to translate it into another related industry As a manufacturer of electronics products for multiple technologies, our offerings for Railway industry include Driver Display Unit (DDU) and Man Machine Interface (MMI). They have multiple applications across-the-board, including – Propulsion systems, Train Management Systems, Simulators, Passenger Information/ Infotainment Displays, Platform Displays, Crew Information Displays etc. Products manufactured by us are Weather proof, Vandal proof, Impact resistant and Theft proof. Our product range also Includes Embedded Single Board Computers for Railway Applications.

 


 

Rail Analysis: Please give as an insight into Sarntel’s technical capabilities?

Shri Puneet Kaura: Samtel has a historically strong culture of R&D with a special focus on future technologies. Over the years, we have cultivated the ability to develop high-end electronics products on our own, and have matured mggedisation technologies for optical, electronic and mechanical systems. We specialize in design and development of products from requirements or specifications, and have the capability to design and develop both hardware and software for electronics. Our state-of-the-art facilities have a high-end electronics product manufacturing, integration and testing set up.

 


 

Rail Analysis: Are you looking at only domestic market or do you have global plans as well? What has been your experience over the years with international players?

Shri Puneet Kaura: Samtel is an Indian company with a global outlook. For railways also, we are looking at export market as well as domestic. We are currently into multiple levels of discussions with various global players in Railway industry. Samtel has always had deep partnerships with international giants over the last 50 years. Starting with Mitsubishi (Japan), who helped us set up our consumer electronics plant we worked with Corning (USA), setting up a JV for a glass manufacturing plant in India. We have operated a German manufacturing unit in Ulm for many years where we manufactured high tech equipment for demanding applications for various industries. Late, we had a JV with Thales (France) for avionics products. We have also had a long-term contract with Honeywell (USA), where we were the sole-source worldwide for one of their key electronics products. Thus, we have always focused on spreading our wings globally and that Is what we intend to do in Railways as well.
