First traction substation over Hubballi Division of SWR directly charged under Open Access

In spite of the Covid-19 crisis, and the Lockdown being warranted to prevent spread of the virus, first Traction substation at Bellary over South Western Railway has been charged under open access. Power allocation of 10 Mw from BBRCL and power corridor agreement with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited has facilitated commissioning of this Traction Sub Station at Bellary.

It was a historic moment for Hubballi Division of SWR as its first Traction Substation at Bellary to get energized and made live under Open Access policy.Till 27.05.2020 power for the recently electrified section of Bellary – Kariganuru and Bellarai – Raydurga section was being extended from Traction Sub Station in Guntakal Division.

Now with the charging of Bellary Traction Sub Station, the power of the overhead equipment is being energized and trains in the section between Bellary-Tornagallu (34 km) Tornagallu – Ranjithpura (23 Km) and Bellary-Rayadurg sections (53 Km) are being run with AC Locos for 110 Rkms.

Once work of electrification in the sidings of private parties like Jindal, Hottur Ispat, ACC Sidings, FCI Sidings, BMB Siding and Ballari Thermal, Ballari TSS will be able to supply power for another 140 Kms ensuring quicker movement of rakes and improving mobility.

With this Traction substation mobility of train services on the section will improve as Electrification will significantly improve mobility trains on SWR and strengthen Rail network in Karnataka. In addition to reduction in pollution efficiency of Railway will improve due to shift from fossil fuel to electricity.

It was made possible under the constant endeavour and follow up of Shri B.G.Mallya, PCEE Sir and Shri Arvind Malkhede, DRM /UBL.
