Gulermak-Sam India JV bags contract for construction of tunnel and 4 underground stations for Kanpur Metro project

M/s Gulermak-Sam India Kanpur Metro Joint Ventures (P) Ltd. has bagged a contract from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for construction of the tunnel including 4 underground metro stations (viz. Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj) on Corridor-1 of Kanpur Metro Project.

  • Based on Technical and Financial evaluation of offers submitted on 30.09.2020 and as per terms and conditions of the tender KNPCC-05, tender has been awarded to M/s Gulermak-Sam India Kanpur Metro Joint Ventures (P) Ltd. on 08.03.2021 at a total cost of INR 7,69,23,67,457.44/- and USD 3,67,44,901.15/-with the approval of competent authority i.e. MD/UPMRCL. 
  • In July Last year, the UPMRC had invited tenders for Contract: KNPCC-05: Design and Construction of Tunnel from start of elevated ramp (after Moti Jheel Metro Station) to end of Nayaganj station including four underground metro stations (viz. Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj) and ramp including Architectural finishes, E&M, TVS, ECS etc. on Corridor-1 of Kanpur MRTS Project at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India”.

Following six bidders were qualified for opening of their Financial Package in accordance with the provision of Tender Document.

About the Kanpur Metro Project:

  • Civil construction works of Kanpur Metro’s ‘Priority Corridor’ from ‘IIT to Motijheel’ is being executed at a fast pace in the post-lockdown period.
  • Kanpur Metro Rail Project will have two corridors .
  • The length of ITT to Naubasta corridor is 23.785 km, which is partly elevated and partly underground and comprises of 22 Stations (14-Elevated and 8-Underground).
  • The length of Agriculture University to Barra-8 corridor is 8.60 km comprising of 4 Elevated & 4 Underground stations.
  • Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRC), a 50:50 jointly owned Company of Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh has been reconstituted as per the approval of the Government as a single SPV by rechristening it as “Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRC)” for implementation of Metro Rail projects in various important cities in the State of Uttar Pradesh and has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementation and operation of the rail based Mass Rapid Transit System (Metro) in Kanpur and Agra cities where Metro projects have been recently approved by Government of India. 
  • The projects shall be financed through equity contribution from Govt. of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Govt. of India (GOI) and a soft loan from International Funding Institutions.
