Wabtec Locomotive Private Limited, a joint venture between Indian Railways and Wabtec, will start exporting Evolution Series locomotives to Africa by 2025 from its Marhowra plant. Introduction:
Wabtec Locomotive Private Limited, a joint venture between Indian Railways and Wabtec, is set to expand operations at its Marhowra plant to export locomotives to Africa, beginning in 2025.
Product Details:
The plant will manufacture the Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives, equipped with a 4,500 HP engine. These locomotives are known for best-in-class fuel efficiency and performance in high-temperature environments.
Strategic Importance:
- This project aligns with India’s “Make in India” and “Make for the World” initiatives and supports the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” vision. It positions India as a global locomotive manufacturing hub.
- The export project will foster long-term job creation and expand the local supplier base, boosting the Indian economy.
Joint Venture Success:
The collaboration between the Ministry of Railways and Wabtec has already delivered over 650 locomotives to Indian Railways, and the Marhowra plant continues to enhance its capabilities for global exports.
Background:
Established in 2018 in Marhowra, Bihar, the plant has been delivering 100 locomotives annually to Indian Railways and currently employs around 600 people.
