The rolling stock workshops at New Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have marked a remarkable increase in maintenance of train coaches & goods wagons.
More details:
- Both the workshops have delivered higher quantity of Periodical Overhauling (POH) outturn of coaches & wagons over the target during the period from April to October in this financial year.
- Safety is paramount for train operations. N.F. Railway has taken several initiatives including regular maintenance of coaches and wagons for safe train running and to provide smooth riding experience to the passengers.
- The New Bongaigaon workshop has carried out Periodical Overhauling (POH) of 260 Non-AC & AC conventional coaches as against a given target of 252 for the period from April to October, 2022.
- Similarly, the POH outturn for conventional coaches in Dibrugarh workshop went to 259 against the given target of 252 during this period. POH of 58 DEMU coaches against the target of 56 and 1005 numbers of BG goods wagons against the target of 980 have been done during the period at New Bongaigaon workshop.
- Both the rolling stock workshops have already undertaken several infrastructure augmentation works for refurbishing of LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches and increasing their POH capacity.
- During April to October, 2022 POH outturn of LHB coaches reached to 140 at New Bongaigaon workshop as against the monthly target of 21 coaches. Dibrugarh workshop achieved POH outturn of 190 LHB coaches during this period against the target of 26 coaches per month.
- Maintenance and repairing of train coaches & goods wagons are done in the workshops as per the prescribed maintenance schedule. In addition to Periodical Overhauling (POH), Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) is also carried out for the train coaches regularly at the scheduled interval.
- The New Bongaigaon workshop achieved IOH outturn of 384 sets of coaches while it is 211 sets of coaches for Dibrugarh workshop during April- October, 2022.
- During the POH & IOH, all the body parts including under gear of train coaches are critically examined for corrosion, structural damages, and stability and ensuring the fitness of the coaches. Overhauling of coaches and wagons are carried out to provide comfortable travel experience to passengers and to ensure safety in operation.
