IRCON advances railway electrification with completion of New Cooch Behar-Golakganj-Dhubri section

IRCON achieves a major milestone in Indian Railways‘ mission for 100% electrification, completing the electrification work of the New Cooch Behar – Golakganj-Dhubri section of the North Frontier Railway. The section spans 78.23 route kilometres, and its successful commissioning boosts operational safety and efficiency.

Introduction:

IRCON has taken a significant step towards fulfilling Indian Railways’ 100% electrification mission by completing the electrification work on the New Cooch Behar – Golakganj-Dhubri section of the Alipurduar Division, part of the North Frontier Railway. The electrified section covers a total route of 78.23 kilometres and a track length of 91.24 kilometres.

Loco Trial Success:

A successful loco trial was conducted on this newly electrified section, reaching maximum section speed on September 27, 2024. This trial highlights the readiness and safety of the electrification works, marking a key milestone in enhancing railway efficiency.

Signalling and Telecommunications Upgrade:

To further improve the safety of train operations, IRCON has commissioned Signalling & Telecommunications (S&T) works compatible with 25 KV railway electrification across seven stations. These stations include Mardanga (MRDG), Tufanganj (TFGN), Boxirhat (BXHT), Agomoni (AGMN), Golakganj (GKJ), Gauripur (GUP), and Dhubri (DBB). The commissioning of the entire section was completed on September 27, 2024.

Conclusion:

The completion of electrification and signalling works on the New Cooch Behar – Golakganj-Dhubri section is a key achievement for IRCON and the Indian Railways. It significantly contributes to the mission of full electrification and safer, more efficient train operations in the North Frontier Railway zone.
