General Manager of Metro Railway, Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy conducted his first trolley inspection along the Dumdum Cantonment to Jai Hind (Airport) stretch of the Yellow Line. This significant inspection showcases Metro Railway’s ongoing commitment to expanding the metro network in Kolkata. During his visit, Shri Reddy assessed the overall progress of the project and expressed satisfaction with the work carried out so far. The inspected stretch is a vital part of the metro’s upcoming developments, promising smoother and faster connections for commuters.
Celebrates 40 Years of Metro Railway in Kolkata:
Adding to the celebrations, Shri Reddy also flagged off the Heritage Run of the NGEF rake in commemoration of 40 years of Metro Railway in Kolkata. Joining the event were Smt. Mamata Shankar, the famous danseuse, and renowned filmmaker Shri Goutam Ghosh, both of whom were present on the Metro’s inaugural run back in 1984.
Looking Ahead:
- Metro Railway is expanding to new destinations including Rajarhat, New Town, Airport, Barasat, and plans to connect Howrah and Sealdah.
- By 2025, the network will cover 90 km and by 2027, it will reach 130 km.
- Plans to connect the airport from New Garia and Noapara by December 2025 will allow the Metro to encircle Kolkata and Howrah.
