A major advancement to introduce newly procured Metro rakes to services has been achieved. The Electrical Inspector of Government of India (EIG) has conducted a detailed inspection and given his approval to Kolkata Metro to charge these newly received rakes with 750V DC electric supply. The new rakes are equipped with modern amenities and enhanced safety and technical features.

The Electrical Inspector of Government of India (EIG) has conducted a detailed inspection of two new rakes (MR-513 & MR- 514) fitted with three-phase electric propulsion system to check their electrical safety. Based on the routine test and inspection report, EIG has also given his approval to charge these 8-coach rakes with 750V DC electric supply. This nod from EIG has been very significant as now other mandatory inspections of these rakes will be possible before introducing them to commercial services. That will further improve the Metro services in Kolkata.
Recently Dalian Rakes received at Noapara Carshed:
- Two new rakes (MR-513 and MR-514), popularly known as Dalian Rake, have reached Noapara Carshed of Kolkata Metro recently.
- These rakes are packed with special features to increase comfort of passengers and ensure enhanced riding experience in Kolkata Metro network.
- These rakes have doors which are 100 mm wider in comparison to the existing AC rakes.
- Moreover, greater seating capacity, better air conditioning system, noise reduction feature and eye-soothing illumination are some of the additions for the comfort of passengers.
The Salient Features of the New MR-513 and MR-514 Rakes are as Follows:
Passenger Amenities Features:
- Wider doors in these rakes will facilitate easy Entry and Exit of passengers especially during the peak hours. Enhanced features of these rakes will also provide jerk-free ride.
- CCTV coverage inside the coach, modular and wider vestibules, enhanced seating capacity including provision of more seats for senior citizens and specially abled are some of the unique features of these rakes.
- Apart from it, features like aesthetically designed interior, improved air diffuser, high capacity ACs, small and sleek alarm device with outside indication lamp, brighter multicolour multilingual display board, uniform illumination, wheelchair parking facility and door side handrails have made these rakes unique in Kolkata Metro.
Technical Features:
Technical features of these rakes include through rain water channels, paint-free stainless steel car body, improved door channel with side stopper and improved energy consumption which will be more environment friendly.
Safety Features:
These rakes also have some enhanced safety features like disc brake system, controlled discharge fire extinguishers with strap, wider evacuation door and evacuation ramp with anti-skid rubber flooring. Such features will definitely increase and ensure commuters safety which Metro authorities always look for.

The addition of new rakes will give a further boost to Kolkata Metro in its efforts to provide seamless travel experience to passengers through modern facilities and at the same time enhancing their safety and maintaining the sustainability aspect of their services.
