Kolkata Metro update: Bids invited for supply CBTC Signaling system for Kavi Subhash-Biman Bandar & Joka-Esplanade Metro corridors

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has invited bids under single stage two packet system for the work of “Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control & Signaling Systems and Telecommunication Systems for Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Metro corridor (32 Kms) & Joka – Esplanade Metro corridor (16 Kms) of Metro Railway Kolkata in West Bengal, India

Scope of Work

“Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control & Signaling Systems, and Telecommunication Systems for Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Metro corridor (32 Kms) & Joka – Esplanade Metro corridor (16 Kms) of Metro Railway Kolkata in West Bengal, India.”

  • Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is a special purpose vehicle under Ministry of Railways which is entrusted implementation of Kolkata Metro Rail Extension Project’s, 2 elevated corridors; (1) Kavi Subhash (New garia) to Biman Bandar & (2) Joka – BBD Bag of Metro Railway Kolkata Line (the “Project”). 
  • This work pertains to “Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control & Signaling Systems, and Telecommunication Systems for Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Metro corridor (32 Kms) & Joka – Esplanade Metro corridor (16 Kms) of Metro Railway Kolkata in West Bengal, India.”
  • The Joka – Esplanade Metro Section is a part of Joka- BBD Bag Metro Corridor.

Details of work:

The summary of current route length and other salient feature of the Kolkata Metro Rail Project, envisaged to be completed under the Project are as mentioned below:

  • Broad gauge (1676 mm) with two tracks (separate for up and down line) on all main running routes, with third rail power traction of 750 volt DC and CBTC system. A total of three depots are being planned for the above Project, one at Joka to cater the need of Joka – Esplanade Corridor and two at Newtown & Kavi Subhash to cater the need of New Garia (Kavi Subhash – Biman Bander Corridor. The depot is being developed with full heavy repair facilities, stabling and light inspection facilities and both these depots will have test tracks.
  • The mode of traction is Third Rail with 750 volt DC. The track will be Broad gauge (1676 mm) as decided by competent authority. The Project is proposed to be brought into operational use in various stages, as provided in the DPR and the project under Consideration is scheduled to be commissioned in phased manner in 48 months time.
    • Section New Garia/Kavi Subhash – Biman Bander via Rajerhat Double track route from New Garia – Biman Bander Section 32 km with 23 Elevated and one underground station & two depots at Kavi Subhash and Newtown. 
    • Section Joka – Esplanade: Double track route from Joka –Esplanade Section 16 km, 12 Stations & one depot at Joka.
  • Total 48 km, 36 Stations (31 elevated & 5 underground), two OCC (one for each line) interoperable from BCC & three depots.
  • The two BCC (one for each line) for both the corridors shall be at Majerhat station.
