Kolkata Metro Update: Work on Noapara-Bimanbandar stretch continues at steady pace

In order to make the long cherished dream of Kolkatans to reach the heart of the city from the airport within 5-7 minutes at a very minimal cost a reality, the work is going o­n in full swing o­n Noapara-Bimanbandar stretch of this Project and in the first phase metro will ply o­n this 6.25-km long stretch having four stations. Biman Bandar station will be the o­nly underground station in the first phase.

More Details:

  • Like all other big cities in the world, Kolkata presently doesn’t have any Metro station at its airport. This deficiency is going to be compensated very soon. Biman Bandar station of Yellow Line i.e. Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbandar Metro Project is going to be o­ne of the important stations o­n this corridor.
  • Passengers from India and abroad will be able to avail Metro services just coming out from the airport and go to any corner of ‘City of Joy’. It will save their time, money and make their journey memorable as well as comfortable. This beautiful and modern Metro station will be an entry point to the city.

  • Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer of Metro Railway has informed that 1,00,000 footfalls are expected at Biman Bandar station daily within two years of commencement of commercial services from here.
  • State of the art passenger amenities will be provided at this station. There will be 6 escalators, 6 lifts and 6 staircases in this station for passengers’ convenience. Apart from these, there will be two sub-ways here. o­ne sub-way will connect Biman Bandar station to busy Jessore Road.
  • Apart from 3 public staircases, 3 emergency staircases will also be there in this sub-way along with 4 entry/exit points. There will also be 4 escalators and 2 lifts in this sub-way. There will be another sub-way which will connect Biman Bandar station with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

  • In this sub-way 4 travelators of 170-metre length will facilitate easy movement of passengers. Such travelators will be first of its kind in Kolkata Metro. Apart from the 3 entry/exit points, 3 public staircases, 2 emergency staircases, 5 escalators and 4 lifts will be there for the convenience of the commuters in this sub-way.
  • Adequate number of AFC-PC Gates will be installed at this station to ensure hassle-free movement of passengers. Modern fire-fighting equipment will also be installed to ensure passenger safety along with 3 dedicated Fireman’s Staircases.
  • Biman Bandar station will have five platforms to ensure easy entraining / detraining of passengers. There will be an adequate number of ticket counters, sitting benches, toilets for ladies, gents and divyangjan, Public Address System for the convenience of the passengers.
