Lucknow Metro (now part of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation) was today felicitated with the coveted ‘National Energy Conservation Award, 2019’ by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Govt. of India (Ministry of Power) in recognition of innovative energy and power savings initiatives undertaken in its operational Metro System since its inception. The award committee comprising several eminent jurists adjudged Lucknow Metro as the winner of the ‘Best Metro Award’ in the ‘Transport Sector’.
Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, UPMRC received the award on behalf of Lucknow Metro along with Shri Sushil Kumar, Director (Operations),UPMRC from Chief Guest for the occasion, Shri R.K. Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Power & Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The award distribution ceremony was organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in the presence of other eminent dignitaries and functionaries.
Every year, 14th December is being celebrated and observed as National Energy Conservation Day by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) since 1991 to create mass awareness about the importance of energy efficiency and conservation. The objective of this scheme is to give national recognition to the management of organizations who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization and conservation of energy.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, GoI has given this award in Industry Sector, Building Sector, Institutions, Transport Sector & Appliance Categories for the year 2019.
Lucknow Metro was considered for ‘National Energy Conservation Award, 2019’ for its various innovative energy conservation initiatives and practices for environment protection incorporated in its Operational System. Lucknow Metro is the first Metro in the country to have 100% LED lighting at Stations, Depot and inside Trains. Moreover, LMRC is accredited with being the only Metro to have ‘Platinum Rating’ Certification from Indian Green building Council (IGBC) for all its Stations & Receiving Sub-Station at Depot.
Inside Metro Trains the Air-Conditioning is automatically controlled as per the variable weather conditions. The train operation software has now been upgraded to minimize energy consumption & for the optimization of coasting and speed of trains enable in order to maintain punctuality. For better optimization of energy consumption, there is a feature of regenerative braking technology in Metro Trains. In addition, the LED lighting luminance inside the trains is automatically controlled as per the intensity of natural daylight.
The lifts provided in Lucknow Metro also utilize the feature of regenerative energy during going down. Intelligent control with variable voltage variable frequency drives for lift and escalators has been provided to ensure energy saving. Further to reduce energy consumption during Operation, unscheduled stoppages of trains is monitored and avoided.
