Maharashtra government approves Pune Metro Phase-2: Two new corridors covering 31.64 km with 28 stations

The Maharashtra government has approved Pune Metro’s Phase-2 expansion, introducing two new corridors: Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi (25.5 km) and Nal Stop-Warje-Manik Bagh (6.1 km). Together, these elevated corridors will add 28 stations to Pune’s metro network, with an estimated project cost of Rs. 9,897.19 crore, pending final approval from the Central Government.

Corridor Details:

Khadakwasla – Swargate – Hadapsar – Kharadi Corridor:

  • Length: 25.518 km
  • Stations: 22 stations along the route
  • Estimated Cost: Rs. 8,131.81 crore
  • Route Description: This corridor will provide vital connectivity across Pune’s key urban hubs, linking Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and Kharadi. It is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility in the city.

Nal Stop – Warje – Manik Bagh Corridor:

  • Length: 6.118 km
  • Stations: 6 stations
  • Estimated Cost: ₹1,765.38 crore
  • Route Description: This shorter corridor will connect Nal Stop, Warje, and Manik Bagh, providing an important link for residents and businesses in these areas.

Both corridors are designed to be fully elevated, ensuring smooth transit and minimising disruptions during construction.

Following the state government’s approval, the proposal for Pune Metro Phase-2 will be submitted to the Central Government for final sanction. Once approved, the new corridors will significantly enhance the city’s metro network and provide faster, more reliable transportation options for residents.
