MMRDA and EU jointly organize five day workshop on smart and sustainable urban planning

A five day Sustainable Urbanization Planning workshop organised by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and European Union under the India – EU Urban Partnership on Smart and Sustainable Urbanization culminated on 24th June, 2022.

  • The workshop was successful in co-creating a list of bankable projects and recommendations that align with and support the implementation of MMR’s Regional Plan.
  • These projects and recommendations cut across sectors such as housing, transportation, environment, economic activities and social facilities.
  • The project’s are multifaceted and their sectoral integration was the key agenda for discussion.
  • Hence, concrete outcomes from the workshop support the sustainable and resilient development of various growth centers identified in MMR’s latest regional plan, which is approved by the Government of Maharashtra.

Speaking at the closing function of the workshop Shri S.V.R. Srinivas, IAS, Hon. Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said “This workshop has enabled multi stakeholders to come and exchange knowledge and ideas and we are keen to take forward programs like vulnerability assessment, community mapping, etc. We will also be looking at professionals to come aboard in this endeavour.”

  • Forty participants representing key stakeholders attended the workshop. Participants included representatives from Mumbai Metropolitan Region, such as MMRDA, MSRDC, Mumbai Port Trust, MIDC, JNPT, CIDCO and MMRCL. The five-day workshop was led by renowned European Urban Planner Mr. Pedro Ortiz.
