MMRDA awards contract to Rithwik-SOMA JV for the construction of Dongri Depot for Mumbai Metro Line-9 project

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to M/s Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd. and Soma Enterprise joint venture for the construction of the Dongri Depot for the Mumbai Metro Line-9 project. This depot will serve as a crucial facility for the maintenance and servicing of metro cars, ensuring efficient and reliable operations for the new metro line.

Scope of Work for the Contractor:

  • Earthwork and Excavation: Includes filling embankments, cutting soil and rocks, controlled blasting, and rock excavation using hammers or chisels where blasting is not allowed. It also covers rock breaking and filling, with density requirements for each layer as per specifications.
  • Rock and Soil Stabilization: Encompass stabilisation work inside and outside the depot area, including rock slope stabilisation with rock bolts and shotcreting, and using RCC retaining walls if needed. Also involves soil stabilisation and preparing geotechnical reports through trial bores.
  • Dewatering and Drainage: Involves dewatering activities with appropriate permits and temporary drainage works during construction, as well as excavation and reshaping of internal and external drainage channels.
  • Material Provision and Track Preparation: Covers the provision and laying of blanketing material and track ballast as per the latest RDSO norms, using prepared materials from excavated rock.
  • Environmental and Safety Measures: Includes tree transplantation, installation of temporary signage during construction, and deployment of consultants for controlled blasting work to ensure safety and minimise environmental impact.

The awarding of the contract for the Dongri Depot to the joint venture of Rithwik and Soma JV marks a significant step forward for the Mumbai Metro Line-9 project. This facility will play a vital role in maintaining and servicing metro cars, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of the metro line, and enhancing public transportation in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
