The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on June 23,2020 completed last pile cap work at the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) Junction station (location P161). The completion of this civil work is a significant milestone achieved by the MMRDA despite facing some crucial challenges.
The complications involved are as follows :
- Number of uncharted utilities like two 600 mm water mains with operation valve key, 300 mm MGL line, 450mm sewer line, major SWD, bunch of HT electric, optic fiber & MTNL cables etc. were identified.
- Due to number of utilities identified in the location a special design of the pile cap was done with extra depth of pile cap.
- Due to extra depth for pile cap and hard rock at lesser depth, excavation becomes very difficult. Moreover, due to space constraint and restrictions over machinery usage to avoid any damage to utilities it added to the hardships while undertaking the work.
Interestingly, as compared to other station pile cap work the JVLR junction pile cap is unique in terms of following technical parameters:
P161 | Typical | |
Shape | Hexagonal | Sq/Rect |
Area | 85 Sqm | 40 Sqm |
Size | 10.7X10 m | 8×6 m |
Con Qty | 170 cum | 80 cum |
Steel Qty | 52 MT | 15MT |
