Nagpur Metro Update: Balanced Track laying work on Reach IV to be completed soon

The work on laying of track on Reach IV (Sitabuldi Interchange to Prajapati Nagar) is nearing completion with only two patches of total 0.5 kilometer left. The total length of track on this Reach is 8.0 km. Work is in progress in Prajapati Nagar and Gaddigodam stretches.

  • In terms of meters if up and down lines both are considered then the length of Reach IV is of 16,050 m which only 1,008 m remains and work is in progress. 
  • The work of viaduct, stations, track, overhead electrical (OHE), signalling, etc on Reach IV is expected to be complete by December this year. 
  • Trains will start running on these sections once the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) gives the green signal.
  • Reach IV will connect top commercial areas of Nagpur like Itwari, Gandhibagh, Central Avenue, etc with the rest of the city. 
  • It will also provide cheap and fast connectivity to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (also known as Mayo Hospital), Nagpur Railway Station, Santra Market, the main fruit market of the city, Mahatma Phule Market, the main vegetable market of Nagpur, Gandhibagh, Maskasath and Itwari wholesale markets and Central Avenue, which is one of the top commercial areas of the city.
  • The stations on Reach IV are Cotton Market, Nagpur Railway Station, Dosar Vaishya Square, Agrasen Square, Chitar Oli Square, Telephone Exchange Square, Ambedkar Square, Vaishno Devi Square and Prajapati Nagar. 
  • Under Phase II of Nagpur Metro, which is awaiting clearance from the Union Cabinet, the line will go up to Transport Nagar, Kapsi.

Mini-Electronics Market at Zero Mile Freedom Park metro station:

Maha Metro has decided to develop a Mini-Electronics Market at Zero Mile Freedom Park metro station. There will be 20 shops selling electronics goods at the concourse level of the station. 

  • These shops have already been constructed.
  • Maha Metro has floated a tender for allotting these shops to bidders on lease for a period of 9 years. 
  • Out of the 20 shops, 17 have areas ranging from 125 square feet to 150 sq ft. 
  • The remaining three are larger ones having an area between 600 sq ft and 900 sq ft.
  • Maha Metro has also floated a tender for construction of a 20-floor tower near Zero Mile, Civil Lines.
  • The Zero Mile Freedom Park station will be housed inside this building.
  • The tower will have 18 storeys above the ground in addition to which there will be 2 basement floors. 
  • Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sanctioned a height of 295 feet for the building. The project has been conceived under parking-cum-commercial development theme of Maha Metro on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis.
  • The concessionaire will have to construct 2,90,000 sq ft commercial space. 
  • The parking includes 2 basements, one ground level and one mezzanine level, which have already been constructed by Maha Metro. 
  • The successful bidder only has to construct 13 floors above the metro station.
