NCRTC is providing an advanced Environmental Control System (ECS) in RRTS underground stations. This system is being installed to maintain optimal temperature and fresh air quality by continuously regulating cooling and ventilation requirements of the stations.
More Details:
To provide a comfortable, safe, and pleasant travel experience for its commuters, NCRTC is installing an advanced Environmental Control System (ECS) in its underground stations to ensure continuous fresh air circulation for the passengers. This ECS is being installed at all four underground stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor i.e. Anand Vihar in Delhi, and Meerut Central, Bhaisali, and Begumpul in Meerut.

These stations are being constructed below the ground level at the depths ranging from 8 to 23 metres. Underground stations have limited airflow than elevated ones. These stations are getting advanced environmental control systems to keep the air quality good and passengers comfortable.
Benefits and Features of ECS system:
- Energy Efficiency: The ECS system uses state-of-the-art, energy-efficient Air Handling Units (AHUs) and electronically commutated (EC) motors to minimise energy loss and enhance overall energy efficiency, reducing operational costs.
- Enhanced Air Quality: Strategically placed ultraviolet-C (UVC) lights and CO2 sensors help combat airborne infections and monitor air quality, ensuring a healthier environment for commuters.
- Comfortable Climate Control: Efficient water-cooled chillers and humidity control mechanisms maintain an optimal and comfortable temperature and humidity level inside the stations, enhancing passenger comfort.

- Advanced Environmental Control: The system includes advanced tools for environmental control, optimising station layout to prevent hot or cold spots and improve passenger comfort through rigorous AC load assessments.
- Innovative Design Solutions: Unique design solutions, such as perpendicular fan placement at Anand Vihar and addressing challenges in underground stations in Meerut, effectively manage space constraints and improve the overall functionality of the ECS system.
Conclusion:
The installation of advanced Environmental Control Systems (ECS) at NCRTC’s underground stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor ensures a superior travel experience. These systems, equipped with energy-efficient technologies and air quality enhancements, provide fresh air circulation, optimal temperature, and humidity control, guaranteeing comfort and safety for all passengers.
