New amenities to enhance commuter experience on Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS

Commuters travelling on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor will soon experience enhanced convenience with new facilities including shopping centres, restaurants, and banking services at the Namo Bharat train stations. This development aims to provide more than just transit solutions, as it enhances the overall travel experience by integrating commercial spaces within the RRTS stations.

More Details:

Recently, Namo Bharat trains achieved the milestone of carrying 1 million passengers to their destinations. In light of the increasing number of passengers each day, the availability of these facilities within the premises of RRTS stations will further enhance passenger convenience.

NCRTC has invited bids for commercial spaces at stations on the operated section of the corridor to provide these amenities. In the first phase, bids have been invited for spaces at Sahibabad, Guldhar, and Duhai stations. The last date for bid submission is June 4, 2024. Bid documents can be viewed on the NCRTC website.

Operational Details and Locations:

Currently, the Namo Bharat train service is operational across eight stations on the 34 km section stretching from Sahibabad to Modi Nagar North. The stations include Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North. Plans are in place to open commercial spaces at additional stations within this section soon.

  • At Sahibabad Station, there is an available built-up area of approximately 165 square metres in the entry/exit block adjacent to Vasundhara and the Sahibabad Industrial Area. This space is ideal for setting up restaurants, shopping outlets, banks, and offices, providing ample opportunities for business establishments to cater to the needs of commuters.
  • Guldhar Station features approximately 145 square metres of built-up area in the entry/exit block located on Delhi-Meerut Road, near Raj Nagar Extension. This area is suitable for a variety of commercial uses, offering potential for businesses to thrive in a strategically placed location.

  • At Duhai Station, two commercial spaces are available, measuring approximately 140 and 135 square metres respectively. These spaces are situated on Meerut Road and are perfect for establishing restaurants and various commercial enterprises, taking advantage of the heavy foot traffic and accessibility of the location.

Expansion and Construction Progress:

The currently operated 34 km section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is expected to soon extend up to Meerut South station in Meerut, increasing the operated section length to 42 km. The entire corridor spans 82 km, with construction progressing rapidly on the under-construction stretches. The target is to commence operation of Namo Bharat trains along the entire corridor by June 2025.
