The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) signed second Contract Agreement of Design and Construction of 88 km (Approx) of viaducts between Vadodara and Ahmedabad in Gujarat (C-6 package) including construction of elevated HSR station at Anand/Nadiad, for Mumbai- Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), with Larsen & Toubro Limited, on 16th December, 2020.
- With this, NHSRCL has awarded civil contracts for the construction of 92% of MAHSR alignment in the state of Gujarat (325 Km out of 352 Km in Gujarat).
- It also includes five (5) HSR stations (Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand/Nadiad, Train depot at Surat and One Mountain Tunnel of 350 metres.
- Last month, in November 2020, NHSRCL had signed a Contract Agreement of 237 km length of viaduct between Vapi (Zaroli Village at Maharashtra- Gujarat Border) and Vadodara in the state of Gujarat for 508 kms of Mumbai- Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor.
Managing Director, Shri Achal Khare stated “NHSRCL team has signed two big contracts for the civil works of MAHSR project in the last one month. As the construction works will soon start, besides the Steel and Cement industries the local industries, manufactures and allied supply chains will also get a boost. The construction activities will also create jobs, for which NHSRCL has already started providing construction related training. The Skill development training programmes will not only make the youth Atmanirbhar but will also improve their employability in the project”.
About MAHSR:
The first High Speed Rail corridor to be implemented in the Country, with technical and financial assistance of the Government of Japan, has been identified from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
- With a total twelve stations in the States of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the corridor will have a length of 508.17 Km.
- Where high speed rail will cover 155.76 kms in the state of Maharashtra (7.04 Kms in Mumbai sub-urban, 39.66 kms in Thane district & 109.06 kms in Palghar district), 4.3 kms in union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 348.04 kms in the state of Gujarat.
- High speed rail will cover a total 12 stations namely Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, (in Maharashtra), Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati (in Gujarat).
- The MAHSR project alone will create more than 90,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction of the project.
- Not just the employment market but the production and manufacturing market are also expected to gain with the project.
- It is estimated that close to 75 lakh MT of cement, 21 lakh MT of steel, and 1.4 lakh MT of structural steel will be used in the construction and all of which shall be produced in India.
- In addition to this, large construction machinery is another market that will gain big time through the project.
