The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has successfully launched a 60-metre-long steel bridge on the Bajva-Chhayapuri chord line in Vadodara, Gujarat, for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. As part of the ‘Make in India‘ initiative, the bridge showcases India’s engineering prowess and collaboration with Japanese expertise.
Bridge Specifications:
Weighing 645 MT and fabricated in Bhachau, Gujarat, the bridge stands at 12.5 meters in height and 14.7 metres in width. The assembly utilised 25,659 high-strength bolts and features C5 system painting with elastomeric bearings, designed for a 100-year lifespan.
Installation Process:
The steel bridge was installed 23.5 metres above ground using two semi-automatic jacks, each with a 250-ton capacity, and Mac-alloy bars. The piers supporting the bridge reach a height of 21 metres.
Make in India Focus:
This project highlights the “Make in India” initiative, blending Indian resources with Japanese technology. The bridge is one of 28 steel bridges planned for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, with five bridges completed so far.
