Northern Railway converts 83 coaches into isolation wards in one day

The Northern Railway on 03.04.2020 converted 83 coaches into isolation wards for novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients, taking the total number of isolation coaches to 174. Besides this, the Northern Railway has also manufactured 1,658 liters sanitiser, 5,516 face masks and 237 coveralls, an official said.

  • “All our workshops are working 24×7 to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. We have achieved the highest conversion rate per day for isolation coaches today with 83 coaches, taking the cumulative figure to 174 till date,” said Deepak Kumar, spokesperson,  Northern Railway.
  • The Indian Railways has decided to convert 20,000 coaches into isolation wards.
  • It would be able to accommodate more than 3.2 lakh patients across the country.
  • In a bid to stop the chain of transmission of Covid-19, railways had announced closure of all passenger, mail and express train services from March 24 to April 14.
