Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (PMRCL) has announced a significant achievement in the construction of the Patna Metro project. Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-2 reached a crucial milestone with its first successful tunnel breakthrough on the Corridor-2 Line between ISBT station and Patna Junction, marking a pivotal phase in the project’s Phase-I construction.

The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-2 successfully completed a crucial phase of the Patna Metro Project as TBM -02 achieved its first Tunnel breakthrough. Operating within the Corridor-2 Line section between ISBT station and Patna Junction, as part of Phase-I construction, TBM2 has made a significant breakthrough.
The Work Progresses at Steady Pace:
- Covering a distance of 1480 metres between Moin Ul Haq Stadium station and University station, the TBM completed its journey in 10 months, culminating in a breakthrough on Tuesday at the University metro station.
- This accomplishment marks a milestone for the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (PMRCL), as both the TBMs to operate on the underground section from Moin Ul Haq Stadium station to University station of Corridor – 2 have completed their drive successfully.
- TBM1 in the up line completed its drive on March 20, 2024, followed by TBM2 on 14.05.2024.
- The breakthrough milestone of TBM-02 was successfully achieved under the leadership and guidance of Shri Daljit Singh, Advisor (Special Works), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Director (Finance) Shri Ajit Sharma was also present on this important achievement.
- Commencing its journey in July 2023, the tunnel’s completion on May 14, 2024, signifies a significant achievement in the progress of the Patna Metro project.
Challenges:
Despite facing numerous obstacles along the tunnel alignment, including approximately 900 buildings and 100 bore wells, the project persevered, overcoming the challenges posed by the densely populated area.
