The Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Pune Metro’s District Court-Swargate section, completing Phase-1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension, a 5.46 km underground stretch with three stations, aiming to enhance Pune’s transportation infrastructure with modern and integrated public transit solutions.
Inauguration of Pune Metro Phase-1 Completion:
The Prime Minister officially inaugurated the underground section from District Court to Swargate, a significant milestone marking the completion of Pune Metro Rail Project Phase-1. This section cost around Rs 1,810 crore and is part of the larger PCMC-Swargate corridor.
Swargate-Katraj Extension Laid Foundation:
Alongside the inauguration, the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension was laid. This 5.46 km southern extension will be fully underground, featuring three new stations: Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj, with an estimated cost of Rs 2,955 crore.
Corridor Overview:
The section between District Court and Swargate is part of the larger 17.4 km PCMC-Swargate corridor, encompassing 14 stations. All are operational except Khadki and Range Hill, making this corridor a critical part of Pune’s expanding metro network.
Project Objectives:
The metro project is focused on developing world-class stations and enhancing surrounding areas, while showcasing Pune’s cultural heritage. The aim is to provide modern, safe, secure, and comfortable transportation, contributing to the improved lifestyle of residents in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
