1. 9000HP Locomotive Transformer:

WAG-9 type electric locomotives are very popular and powerful Electric locomotives in Indian Railways. Through Technology Transfer Indian Railway is manufacturing WAG-9 locomotives at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works(CLW) since 1996. Now Indian Railway has need for upgrading the existing WAG9 type locomotives to a power level from the existing 4500kW to 7000kW at wheel with minimum changes in the weight and dimensions. The new 7000kW locomotives will enhance the transport requirement in India and to cater for higher freight volumes.

High Volt Electricals Pvt. Ltd. has successfully designed, developed & supplied locomotive transformer for new age locomotive 9000HP through M/s. Medha Servo Drive Pvt Ltd & M/s. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

The uniqueness of the development was even though the required capacity was increased by 30-35% there was no increase in the outer dimension of the transformer & the new transformer was accommodated in the same Aluminium tank used for old 6531 KVA transformer. The transformer was developed in record time of 4 Months. The transformer was tested by Indian Railways(CLW) & commissioned by CLW.

2. Transformers for Air-conditioned EMU:

Indian railway was planning to manufacture EMUs equipped with IGBT based 3 phase propulsion system & Fully air conditioned rake with a capacity of 30 Ton per coach with Automatic Door closure system & other advance features.

The regular transformers used in Indian Railways are not suited for this application due to their limited capacity to power auxiliary loads & hence there was need to manufacture EMU transformer with higher auxiliary power.

High Volt Electricals Pvt. Ltd. developed & supplied 1552 KVA EMU transformer for this application through M/s. Medha Servo Drive Pvt. Ltd. to Integral Coach Factory(ICF). The typical specification is as below,
