RailTel secures Rs. 70 Crore contract from Eastern Railway for network overhaul

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. has been awarded a significant contract worth Rs. 70.9 crore by Eastern Railway. The project involves implementing a Unified Communication Infrastructure across the railway network, including the installation of advanced routers, switches, and network management systems to enhance connectivity and communication.

Scope of Works for the Contractor:

Advanced Network Equipment Installation:

The project involves the supply and installation of Rack Mountable Label Edge Routers (LER) and Label Switch Routers (LSR) at stations, providing a robust 4x10G and 8x10G configuration. This setup supports both optical and Ethernet ports, enhancing the network’s capability to handle voice, data, and signalling circuits effectively.

Development of a 10G IP-MPLS Backbone Network:

RailTel will create a new 10G IP-MPLS backbone network with dual fibre connections, ensuring high-speed data transmission and improved redundancy. This network will seamlessly interface with existing TDM systems at boundary locations, providing a unified and resilient communication infrastructure.

L3 VPN Creation and Ethernet Circuit Integration:

The project includes the creation of Layer 3 Virtual Private Networks (L3 VPNs) on IP-MPLS routers, enabling secure and efficient routing of Ethernet circuits. This integration will support various railway applications such as PRS/UTS, FOIS, RAILNET, SCADA, VOIP Exchange, and TCCS, streamlining operations across the network.

Installation of Network Management Systems:

An integrated Divisional and Zonal Network Management System (eMS/NMS) will be established, featuring servers for configuration and monitoring of network equipment. These systems will function as Network Operation Centres (NOCs), providing centralised control and enhancing the operational oversight of the entire communication infrastructure.

Comprehensive Training for Railway Officials:

As part of the project, RailTel will provide training to railway officials according to RDSO’s standards, ensuring that staff are equipped with the necessary skills to operate and maintain the new IP-MPLS network effectively. This training is crucial for the smooth transition to the upgraded communication systems.

Conclusion:

This project marks a major step forward in modernising Eastern Railway’s communication infrastructure. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, RailTel aims to enhance operational efficiency and connectivity across the network. The successful execution of this contract will reinforce RailTel’s position as a leading provider of digital communication solutions in the railway sector.
