Railway Board Director General of Safety, Shri Braj Mohan Agrawal, inspects Kolkata metro’s green and blue lines

In a significant step towards enhancing passenger safety and service reliability, Shri Braj Mohan Agrawal, the Director General (Safety) of the Railway Board, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of key stretches of the Metro Railway Kolkata. The inspection covered the Esplanade to Howrah Maidan segment of the Green Line and the Esplanade to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stretch of the Blue Line.

In a dedicated effort to uphold the highest standards of passenger safety and service reliability, Kolkata Metro undergoes routine inspections. Recently, these efforts were highlighted during a visit by Shri Braj Mohan Agrawal, Director General (Safety) of the Railway Board. He meticulously inspected two critical segments of the metro network: the Esplanade to Howrah Maidan stretch of the Green Line and the Esplanade to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stretch of the Blue Line. These inspections are essential for ensuring ongoing safety and operational excellence across the Kolkata Metro system.

During Inspection:

  • Prior to this inspection, he held a high-level meeting with all Principal Head of Departments of Metro Railway in presence of Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway at Metro Rail Bhavan.
  • Welcoming DG (Safety) in Kolkata Metro, Shri Reddy and other senior officers briefed him about different safety measures adopted in Metro Railway.
  • Shri Agrawal started his footplate inspection from the new Esplanade Metro station to Howrah Maidan station and back in Motorman’s Cab.
  • He inspected the Entry and Exit Gates, AFC-PC Gates, Ticketing System, Escalators, Lifts, Signage Boards, Platforms, Fire Detection and Suppression System and other passenger amenities, Station Control Room, Signalling System of new Esplanade and Howrah Metro stations of this stretch along with the tracks.

  • During this inspection, high level officers of Metro Railway as well as Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) accompanied him.
  • DG (Safety) also inspected passenger interchanging arrangements between Blue Line and Green Line 2 at Esplanade station.
  • After that, he conducted a footplate inspection of the Blue Line from Esplanade to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations.
  • During this inspection, he focused o­n track maintenance, points, different passenger amenities etc.
  • After the inspection, he expressed his satisfaction seeing the overall safety measures adopted in Kolkata Metro.

Shri Agrawal’s inspection highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure that the Kolkata Metro remains a safe and reliable mode of transport for its passengers.
