RRTS Corridor goes green: NCRTC partners with PTC India for cost-efficient power procurement

NCRTC and PTC India have signed an agreement to procure low-cost power, including green energy, through power exchanges for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. This strategic move aims to reduce electricity costs and support sustainable operations for the Namo Bharat trains across key receiving substations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Operational Implementation:

The power procurement will serve NCRTC’s receiving substations in Ghaziabad, Modipuram, Shatabdi Nagar, Muradnagar (UP), and Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi). This collaboration aligns with NCRTC’s aim to reduce power costs and support sustainability goals.

Partnership Details:

The agreement, witnessed by Shri Shalabh Goel, MD of NCRTC, and Shri Manoj Jhawar, CMD of PTC, underlines a partnership focused on operational cost efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Importance of Cost-Efficient Power:

Electricity is crucial for the RRTS corridor, powering its Namo Bharat trains. With energy costs constituting 30-35% of operations, NCRTC aims to minimise expenses by exploring cost-efficient sources, such as power exchanges with PTC’s expertise.

PTC’s Role in Energy Management:

Leveraging its experience in power exchange, PTC will support NCRTC in managing costs and ensuring reliable energy supplies. The phased implementation will start with the already operational sections and expand as the corridor is fully rolled out.

Insight:

Shri Shalabh Goel, Managing Director of NCRTC, said, “A capital-intensive project like the RRTS needs to be sustainable in the longer term. We are pleased to partner with PTC India in managing our energy needs. NCRTC is committed to finding innovative and sustainable solutions. This agreement marks a significant milestone in our efforts to secure reliable and cost-effective  power, including green energy, to reduce the carbon footprint.”

Conclusion:

The NCRTC and PTC India partnership marks a pivotal step toward cost-efficient and sustainable energy procurement for the RRTS corridor. By leveraging green power through exchanges, NCRTC aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce carbon footprint, and ensure reliable power for its high-speed rail services.
