RRTS sets a new standard for eco-friendly infrastructure with 900 solar panels at New Ashok Nagar station

The New Ashok Nagar RRTS station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is setting a new standard for eco-friendly infrastructure. With 900 solar panels and a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system, the station exemplifies NCRTC’s commitment to sustainable development, aiming to significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy across the corridor.

Solar Policy by NCRTC:

  • NCRTC’s solar policy aims to increase the share of renewable energy across the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
  • Targeting over 11 MW of solar power generation through installations at stations, depots, and other facilities. Expected to cut CO2 emissions by 11,500 tonnes annually.
  • Solar installations are already active at several operational RRTS stations, producing over 3 MW of electricity.

New Ashok Nagar RRTS Station:

The station will have 900 solar panels installed on the roof, generating over 6.5 lakh units of electricity per year. Incorporates a rainwater harvesting system with five pits under construction, aiding groundwater replenishment. Green spaces will be developed around the station, including parking areas and medians, to enhance the environment.

Environment-Friendly Development:

Over 2.5 lakh plants have been planted along the RRTS corridor to promote greenery. Tree planting is ongoing at various under-construction stations, with a focus on sustainability. The station aims to achieve the highest IGBC certification rating for eco-friendly design and energy efficiency.

Under Construction Work:

  • Construction of the station’s roof structure is underway, with plans to install solar panels upon completion.
  • A 90-metre-long foot over bridge is being constructed to connect New Ashok Nagar RRTS with the existing Ashok Nagar Metro station, facilitating seamless multi-modal integration.
  • The Delhi section of the RRTS is progressing rapidly, with track laying, OHE, and signalling work ongoing, aiming for trial runs by November.

Conclusion:

NCRTC’s initiatives at New Ashok Nagar RRTS station highlight a strong commitment to sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure. Through innovative solutions like solar power and rainwater harvesting, NCRTC is setting a benchmark in green transit development, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for urban commuters along the RRTS corridor.
