A team of officials from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Shri Vikas Sheel, Executive Director, and Ms. Mio Oka, Country Director, visited Gati Shakti Bhawan (NCRTC Corporate Office) and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor at Sahibabad Station and Duhai Depot. They met Managing Director Shri Shalabh Goel, Directors and other senior officers of NCRTC.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is progressing rapidly under the implementing agency National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). Recently, a team of officials from the Asian Development Bank, led by Shri Vikas Sheel, Executive Director, and Ms. Mio Oka, Country Director, visited various construction sites to assess the project’s advancement. Once completed, this corridor will enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote sustainable urban development.
Project Overview by NCRTC:
- Team NCRTC gave them an overview of the various construction activities being carried out for the corridor, installation of several systems and subsystems, and latest technologies being adopted for implementation and operations of this transformative mobility solution.
- Further, team NCRTC shared details with regards to initiatives like interoperability of RRTS corridors, seamless multi-modal-integration among various modes of transport, and maximising the use of solar/renewable energy.
ADB Team Took Ride on Newly Opened Section:
- The ADB team took a ride on the country’s first Namo Bharat train along the operational section of the RRTS corridor and experienced several commuter-centric amenities in these new-age trains and at the RRTS stations.
- The delegation also visited ‘Aparimit – Centre of Innovation’ at Duhai Depot and witnessed several new-age technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and building information modelling (BIM).
Operational Stretch of RRTS Corridor:
- Presently, a 34 km section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, which includes eight stations, namely Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South & Modi Nagar North stations is operational for passengers.
- As construction progresses swiftly on the remaining stretches of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, NCRTC is expected to complete the entire system by the anticipated operational deadline of June 2025.
The visit conducted by the ADB officials of the Delhi-Meerut-Ghaziabad RRTS corridor marks the rapid progress of the much awaited project to boost the regional connectivity through the new age train services and also gives insights into the modern technologies being used and sustainable practices being followed in the construction of this modern railway system.
