RRTS Update: Shri K. Rajaraman along with other senior DoT officials visit the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RAPIDX corridor

Shri K. Rajaraman, Secretary (Telecom) & Chairman, Digital Communications Commission, Shri Sanjeev Agrawal, Member (Technology), Shri Manish Sinha, Member (Finance) along with other senior DoT officials visited the RAPIDX corridor. Shri Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director, NCRTC accompanied him on this visit.

More Details:

  • During this visit, Shri Rajaraman overviewed the features of the state-of-the-art modern RAPIDX trainsets and track designed to travel at the design speed of 180 kmph.
  • After viewing the demonstration of the signalling and train control system, he complimented the team on the successful implementation of ETCS L2 signalling over the LTE (Long Term Evolution) network.

  • He also had first hand experience of mission critical voice communication and video application on the train running at the high speed of more than 150 kmph.
  • As India’s first Captive Non-public Network (CNPN) licence holder, NCRTC sets a new benchmark in communication technology by implementing LTE communication backbone in 700 MHz band for Signalling & Train Control and mission critical voice communication & video application.
  • The RAPIDX corridor is a rail based system in the world to implement a combination of ETCS L2 along with hybrid L3 over Long-Term Evolution (LTE) radio. Further, Platform Screen Door (PSD) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) are being implemented.
  • This pioneering effort places India at the forefront of global innovation and technology adoption. The system will offer increased safety and higher line capacity.

  • ETCS L2 over LTE is also pivotal for making the RAPIDX corridors interoperable. The interoperability not only ensures the convenience of the commuters, but also makes the system vendor agnostic, saving significant cost in the implementation of future RAPIDX corridors.
  • LTE, being the advanced communication system, enables Mission Critical video calls, which was not possible with the previous communication systems like Tetra and GSM-R. It enables the broadcast of live CCTV video feed from the train to the Operation Control Centre (OCC), enhancing the safety of passengers.

  • The National Capital Region Transport Corporation is dedicated to developing and implementing Regional Rapid Transit Systems to improve regional transportation in the National Capital Region of India.
  • It aims to provide safe, comfortable, efficient, reliable and affordable commute services to commuters and has leveraged the best available technologies in the world to make it possible.
