RVNL achieves breakthrough in Tunnel 14 of the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri railway project

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) celebrated a major milestone as Tunnel No. 14 of the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri railway project was successfully completed. The 2.2 km tunnel excavation, finished in two years, highlights the team’s dedication to safety and quality. This marks the completion of 13 out of 16 tunnels in the project.

Introduction:

RVNL announced the successful breakthrough of Tunnel No. 14 on September 11, 2024, as part of the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri New Railway Line project. The event was graced by the presence of the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), highlighting the significance of this achievement.

Project Milestone:

The 2.2 km long Tunnel No. 14 excavation was completed in approximately two years, adhering to the highest safety standards. This milestone brings the total completed tunnels to 13 out of 16 in the ambitious Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri railway project.

Project Scope:

  • The Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri project spans 63.1 km, involving the construction of a broad-gauge rail link from Bhanupalli to Bilaspur-Beri in Himachal Pradesh, approved in April 2008.
  • The project scope includes the construction of foundations, substructure, superstructure, river protection works, earthwork, and five critical railway bridges between 3.50 km and 20.00 km.

Strategic Importance:

  • In February 2024, the project received a significant boost with the allocation of Rs. 1000 crore, underlining its strategic importance for enhancing connectivity in the region.
  • The new rail line aims to provide a transformative link, benefiting both Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
