RVNL completes 18km Tunnelling works of Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New Rail line project

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for achieving the 18th km of Tunnelling on 12.11.2021 in the most challenging geology on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New Rail line project in a remarkably short span of 11 days.

About Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Project: 

  • The Project, entrusted to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, proposes to bring rail connectivity to the higher reaches of Uttarakhand.
  • The electrified BG rail line will connect important towns like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag (5 districts). 
  • This is a technically challenging project involving the construction of a rail line in the rugged Himalayan topography with complex geology and with 83.08% of the total stretch of 125km rail line lying in tunnels (total 17 tunnels). 
  • The first station, Yog Nagari Rishikesh station was commissioned in March 2020. 

  • 5 Adit tunnels have been completed and one of the three major Rail Bridges, over river Chandrabhaga Ji at Rishikesh, has been completed. 
  • Construction of the other two bridges over river Alaknanda at Lachmoli and Srinagar, respectively, is in progress. 
  • The team has notched a new benchmark in completing the 18th km of tunneling on 12.11.2021 in the most complex geology in a remarkably short span of 11 days.
  • Project completion is planned for 2024-25.

Recent Achievements:

Recently, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited team has achieved a milestone of doubling the 26.33 km Washimbe Bhalwani section of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project. A great capacity addition project to the Golden Quadrilateral route.

  • Doubling work in Washimbe Bhalwani section (26.33 km) of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project has been inspected by Shri Manoj Arora Commissioner of Railway Safety Central Circle, Mumbai on 26.10.2021 & 27.10.2021. 
  • The doubling work included the construction of 65 bridges, three new station buildings at Jeur, Pophlaj, and Washimbe stations, and a new Electronic interlocking at 4 stations. 
  • With commissioning, a major bottleneck at Pophlaj station where trains were being reversed for crossing on this single line stretch on golden quadrilateral is being eliminated. 
  • This completes 196.43kms of doubling out of 224.91. 
  • The section is now operational for train services.

About RVNL:
